Our Story
Bombolulu Workshops & Cultural Centre is a programme of the Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) — Coast Branch. Since 1969, it has empowered over 150 artisans with physical disabilities through employment in four production workshops: Jewellery, Tailoring, Woodcarving and Leatherwork. Every piece sold carries the Fair Trade mark. The Cultural Centre showcases 7 traditional tribal homesteads (Kaya, Giriama, Orma, Swahili, Luo, Masai and Bukusu) with customary dances, music and entertainment. The Ziga Restaurant serves local African specialties, and the gift shop offers high-end handcrafted goods made on-site. Visitors can take craft-making lessons from resident artisans. Operating hours: Gift Shop 8am–6pm Mon–Sun (9am–4pm Sun), Cultural Centre 8am–4pm Mon–Sat, Workshops 8am–4:30pm Mon–Fri. The centre offers half-day tour packages, dormitory accommodation for school groups, a guest house, and educational programmes for schools and colleges.
